Hi, I’m Macy Jones (she/her), lcsw.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who provides trauma-informed therapy for individuals, couples, and families. My work is grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you with curiosity, compassion, and respect as we make sense of your experiences together.
My practice is rooted in anti-oppressive, body-liberated, and affirming values. I know that so many of the struggles we carry aren't created in isolation. They're shaped by the families, communities, systems, and cultural messages we've been surrounded by. Therapy doesn't happen in a vacuum, and neither do you. Together, we'll make space to explore not only what's happening within you, but also the external forces that have influenced how you see yourself and move through the world.
I am deeply committed to fat liberation and to creating a space where your body is treated with dignity, not judgment. If you've experienced the effects of weight stigma, body shame, or medical trauma, you don't have to convince me those experiences are real. They are. We'll work to untangle the stories you've been taught about your body while building a relationship with yourself that feels rooted in safety, compassion, and trust rather than criticism or control.
Much of my work also centers on reconnecting people with themselves. Trauma, anxiety, depression, and chronic stress can leave us feeling disconnected from our emotions, intuition, or even our own bodies. Using approaches like Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic interventions, and other trauma-informed modalities, we'll explore the protective patterns that have helped you survive while gently creating space for healing, self-understanding, and lasting change.
Above all, I want therapy to feel like a place where you don't have to perform, have it all figured out, or be anyone other than yourself. My hope is that our work together helps you build a life that feels more authentic, more connected, and more aligned with your values.
You deserve to feel at home in yourself. If you're ready to try, I'd be honored to walk alongside you.
My Approach
Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views the mind as a collection of distinct, interacting sub-personalities or 'parts'. Developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, IFS is grounded in the belief that every individual possesses a core or 'Self' which is characterized by qualities of confidence, compassion, and calmness. IFS therapy aims to help individuals access this Self and facilitate its leadership. By understanding and embracing these internal parts, often formed in response to traumatic or challenging experiences, individuals can heal and integrate them, resulting in greater harmony, self-awareness, and inner peace.
Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a pioneering body-focused therapeutic approach designed to address trauma and stress disorders. Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, SE is grounded in the understanding that trauma is not just a mental experience but is deeply rooted in the body. By tapping into the body's innate ability to self-regulate, SE aids individuals in releasing stored traumatic energy, promoting healing and resilience. Through guided bodily awareness and slow, measured exercises, clients learn to identify and process bodily sensations related to traumatic events, allowing for a holistic and integrative approach to healing that encompasses both body and mind.
Trauma-Informed
Trauma-Informed Therapy acknowledges the widespread impact of trauma and integrates this understanding into all facets of therapeutic practice. It emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety, aiming to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment for the individual. Practitioners approach clients with an attitude of 'what happened to you?' rather than 'what's wrong with you?', fostering an environment of understanding and compassion. This therapy recognizes the multifaceted nature of trauma, ensuring that care is tailored to address past experiences and their present-day implications, all while promoting resilience and healing.
